Research Interests

Professor Faste came to Stanford University in 1984 from Syracuse University where he was Professor of Design in the College of Visual and Performing Arts. His scholarship revolves around three related issues: the role of the body/mind in technical and aesthetic creativity (Visual, Ambidextrous and Kinesthetic Thinking), understanding needs and cultural meaning in products (Needfinding), and synthesizing engineering, artistic and humanistic concerns in the design of products and environments. He also teaches a course titled "Computer Aided Design of Model Yachts", and "Powers of Observation" for The Stanford Center for Technology and Innovation in Kyoto, Japan.
