Biodesign Innovation

Tim Ramsey, '04, MS '04, wears a brace that vibrates when the wearer's ankle rotates too much. The brace was designed by students in Mechanical Engineering 382: Biomedical Device Design and Evaluation. The Stanford biodesign innovation program had asked Tom Andriacchi, a professor of mechanical engineering and of orthopedic surgery if his students could come up with a product that would somehow prevent falls.

Applying for the Co-Terminal BS/MS Program

Stanford undergraduates who wish to continue their studies and receive a Master of Science degree in the coterminal program should apply for entrance after the beginning of the eighth quarter of undergraduate work but by the second week of the 11th quarter.

Co-Terminal Eligibility Requirements

The application must provide evidence for strong academic performance as a graduate student. The application is evaluated by the Mechanical Engineering Graduate Admissions Committee. Typically, a GPA of at least 3.5 in engineering, science, and math is expected. Applicants must have completed two of the following courses: ME80/81, 112, 113, 131A, 131B, and must take the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) before applying.

Admission to the Co-Terminal Program

Admission to the coterminal program is based on the same standards as admission to the MS program. Coterminal applicants are not eligible for Stanford University Fellowships. Students should discuss with their advisor the pros and cons associated with applying for coterminal admission versus the regular MS admissions process.

Coterminal information and forms can be obtained from the ME Student Services Office.
