Affiliates Opportunities

CDR Industry Affiliates Program

Membership Options

There are two options for research cooperation as part of the CDR Industry Affiliate Program, in conformance with Stanford University Policies.

    1. Visiting Research Fellows: The affiliate places a corporate staff researcher at CDR with office and lab space near the center of the campus. The fellow shares access to the laboratories of one or more CDR Principal Faculty. The arrangement is typically based on the definition of a project of mutual interest. Fellows receive an immersive experience within one of Stanford's premier innovation incubators. The Annual Fee is $85,000.

    2. Joint Project Experiences:Research and Development projects of mutual interest give companies access to CDR's global, multicultural, multidisciplinary research environment through participation in new and on-going research. Projects typically involve a combination of engineering design synthesis, design tool development and design thinking studies. Affiliates are invited to attend an annual workshop where current and future projects are reported and discussed. The Annual Fee is $85,000.

CDR Academic Affiliates Program

Options for members of other universities to spend time at the Center for Design Research.

There are two classifications for visitors from other academic institutions. The two options are described below. In both cases, the visitor is given office space in CDR near the center of the campus and open access to the laboratory of a CDR Principal Investigator with whom a joint-research program has been defined. This is an immersive experience within one of Stanford's premier innovation labs. Depending on the classification, the fee is either $4,500 per quarter or $1,500 per month.

    1. Visiting Scholar: This option is for faculty or senior research staff from other universities who are recognized as "experts in their field" and typically hold a Ph.D. The fee for these visitors is $1,500 per month.
    2. Visiting Researchers This option is for students (typically Ph.D. candidates) and junior research staff from other universities. The fee for these visitors is $4,500 per quarter and it cannot be prorated due to university restrictions.

The labs included in this program include:
