Custodial Services Update

(loranjl 5/4/26)

There have been a few changes to how custodial services work in 02-550, effective 4/1/26. Below are some highlights. For the full facilities directory and request links, see the ME Staff Facilities Support intranet page.

Custodial Schedule

Our building’s custodian now works Monday–Friday, 6pm–2:30am. For a full breakdown of what’s included, see the 02-550 Custodial Scope of Work.

Event Coordination

Because pre- and post-event clean-up is not part of regular custodial duties, Customer-funded Work Requests are required for events held in Building 550 depending on the type and size of event.  Collect the event details, then the relevant Design Group admin should discuss with Loran Lusvardi or Kristin Burns to determine which Work Requests will be required (if any).  Events may not be advertised until required Work Requests are in place.  See Building 550 Event Clean-up Requirements for reference.

If you find the new custodial schedule is disruptive to your evening event, please reach out to Loran Lusvardi with a description of the issue.

Trash and Recycling

Due to budgetary constraints and a commitment to reducing waste, deskside and personal office trash pickup is being phased out. If you have a deskside trash bin, you are responsible for emptying it personally at a central waste station on a routine basis.

In its place, Stanford's Zero Waste Building System provides M-F custodial service at centralized stations throughout the building and includes the following:

  • Color-coded centralized waste stations — sort your waste here rather than at your desk.
  • Blue bins for all recyclables — paper, cardboard, plastics, metal, and glass go together. Flattened cardboard can be placed in or next to any station.
  • Green compost bins — for food scraps, paper towels, and compostable food service ware.

Report On-going Service Issues

If a routine service described in the scope of work is consistently getting missed, please reach out to Loran Lusvardi with a description of the issue so we can track and address areas that need attention.
