Early Career Outcomes of Engineering Graduates: Exploring Their Connection to the Undergraduate Experience

To improve engineering education, a better understanding of the work experiences and career decision-making of engineering graduates is needed. This defense talk uses data from a homegrown survey of recent graduates to examine the factors influencing three key points in their career pathways: their first positions out of school, their positions at four years post-graduation, and their future plans. Drawing on Social Cognitive Career Theory (SCCT) as a conceptual framework, the implications of these findings for engineering recruitment and retention will be discussed.
