Maurizio Chiaramonte, a student of Professor Lew, wins the Melosh Medal. The Robert J. Melosh Medal is curated by Duke University and involves a two-stage review of papers and then on-site lectures by the candidates in front of a panel of experts. Maurizio is being recognized for his work on the simulation of crack propagation involving curvilinear or other complicated trajectories, in particular through accurate management of the stress intensities when the mesh or timestep is changed.
