Timoshenko Lecturers

Main content start

Established in 2004 by the Mechanics and Computation Group, the Timoshenko Lecture honors the legacy of Stephen P. Timoshenko, a founding faculty member of Stanford’s Division of Applied Mechanics.

Since 2014, the Timoshenko Lecture has served as one of the Mechanical Engineering Department’s two premier annual seminars, alongside the Reynolds Lecture. In keeping with Professor Timoshenko’s profound interest in the evolution of his field, lecturers are encouraged to connect their contemporary research or personal experiences to the historical milestones of engineering mechanics. Timoshenko Lecturers are nominated and selected by the Mechanics and Computation faculty
